Alexandra Nunes, PhD

Alexandra Nunes is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Medical Sciences, University of Aveiro (UA) and Principal Investigator at Institute for Biomedicine (iBiMED) - Aveiro. She started her undergraduate studies at the University of Aveiro, in Biochemistry and Food Chemistry which she concluded in 1996, and in 2000 concluded her Master Degree in Natural Products and Food Stuff in the same institution. She developed her PhD in Chemistry, in the Chemistry Department of University of Aveiro from 2000 to 2004. Alexandra Nunes is specialist in metabolic profiling, spectroscopic techniques and multivariate analysis of spectroscopic signals. She is interested in the application of spectroscopic techniques to the analysis of complex matrices, she uses multivariate analysis to the interpretation of spectroscopic signals for the analysis of biological samples. She applies FTIR spectroscopy as a screening tool to discriminate biologic samples with different age and age-related pathologies with particular interest in protein aggregation profile and in the identification of biomarkers of aging and age-related diseases.

Daniela Ribeiro.jpg

Daniela Ribeiro, PhD

Daniela Ribeiro is the group leader of the Virus Host-Cell Interactions Laboratory at the Institute of Biomedicine (iBiMED), University of Aveiro. Daniela graduated in Biochemistry at the University of Porto (Portugal) in 2001 and obtained a PhD degree in 2007, in the areas of Virology and Cell Biology, at the Wageningen University (The Netherlands). Afterwards, she was appointed as Assistant Professor and Researcher at the Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona, Spain). In 2010 she joined the University of Aveiro as a Postdoctoral researcher and, in 2016, she was appointed as Invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Medical Sciences. In 2018 Daniela was awarded an Assistant Researcher position (CEEC2017) at iBiMED.

Daniela's team, currently composed of 7 PhD students and 3 MSc students, is involved in several research projects that study different aspects of the interplay between viruses and their host cells, aiming to discover novel mechanisms that can be explored as targets for the development of innovative antiviral therapeutics.

Fernando Ribeiro, PhD

Fernando Ribeiro holds a degree in Physical Therapy, an MSc in Sport Sciences, and a Ph.D. in Physical Activity and Health – in the field of exercise training and cardiac rehabilitation. In 2013, I completed a Postdoctoral scholarship on the effects of exercise on the cardiovascular system. Both the Ph.D. and the postdoc were funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. In 2021, I completed the Habilitation in Physiotherapy. My research interests include cardiac rehabilitation, exercise training, and cardiovascular diseases, as well as the role of clinical exercise in the rehabilitation of non-communicable diseases. My teaching experience encompasses undergraduate and graduate courses and the scientific supervision of MSc and Ph.D. students. I've been contributing as a reviewer and editorial board member to several scientific journals, and as a grant proposal evaluator for national and international funding agencies.
